Nonprofit Development Consultant (Part-Time)
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northwest Suburbs Chicago is seeking a part-time nonprofit consultant to support fundraising, event planning, and volunteer coordination. This temporary role will report to the Board President and play a vital part in strengthening our organization’s financial sustainability and community impact.
We are a 100% volunteer-led organization, with an active board that remains deeply involved in operations. We are looking for a consultant to provide organizational support until we hire a long-term manager in early fall.
Key Responsibilities
• Systems Support – Establish systems for event coordination, volunteer scheduling, and long-term sustainability.
• Fundraising & Development – Develop and implement strategies to secure financial support through grants, donor cultivation, and fundraising events.
• Grant Administration – Lead the grant application process, ensuring timely submissions, compliance, and reporting. A key deliverable would be completion of pending grant applications.
• Volunteer Recruitment & Management – Expand and maintain our volunteer network, ensuring engagement and retention. A key deliverable would be expansion of the active volunteer base by at least 20 individuals and assignment of tasks to everyone in the volunteer database.
• Event Planning & Community Outreach – Plan events that effectively communicate NAMI NWSC’s mission and engage our community.
• Stakeholder Relations – Build and maintain relationships with donors, volunteers, board members, local businesses, and community partners.
• Transition Support – Assist in hiring and onboarding a long-term consultant or part-time manager.
Qualifications
• Proven experience in fundraising and donor cultivation (minimum 2 years).
• Strong knowledge of nonprofit development strategies across multiple revenue streams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Passion for mental health advocacy and commitment to NAMI’s mission.
Compensation & Application Process
This is a consulting position for approximately 20 hours per week at $25/hour. We anticipate a 7/1 start date and a 3-month term.
